You can probably list a thousand reasons to throw in the towel and call it quits. Reasons like…
Now let me provide a logical counter argument for each reason stated above. I believe these can be used across the board for all types of goals that you feel like giving up on.
1. It’s taking too long
It will never EVER happen if you stop now. That’s ridiculous. Totally counter-productive and it would be insane if you quit at this point. If this is one of your excuses, then you need to think about how far you’ve come and think about where you will be in another month or even next year! Your future self will definitely kick you if you give up.
2. I’m not seeing results
Question: Are you tracking your results? Maybe you are making headway, but you have no way of knowing. I also find it hard to believe that if you are in ANY way moving in the direction of your goal that you are not making some sort of progress. Every step, no matter how small, counts and is compounding day by day. My suggestion, is to make sure you have a way of tracking your daily activities and/or switch up your routine and seek out other ways to achieve your desired results.
3. It’s too painful
No pain – no gain! The pain of change is better than the pain of staying the same! Either way it’s painful, but the person you will become because of the pain (aka growth) you are experiencing now is going to be so SO worth it.
4. I don’t want to be a failure
Then don’t give up.
5. I can’t catch a break
Life doesn’t always go the way we plan it, but as long as you keep your eyes on the prize (FOCUS), keep your head up (Don’t dwell on negative thoughts), stay positive (Repeat affirmations if you need to), and keeping making progress – every single day – it will all pay off.
Lastly, remember, you are still in control and "This Too, Shall Pass."
Oh, look! Here are some printable packets that could help you stay motivated and track your progress!

The main reason we started 30 Day Journal Co. was to not only help people realize the value in today, but to also realize the importance of every decision we make. It is our hope that when you begin a 30 day journey with us, that your days become more focused, your thoughts become more positive and your decisions become more intentional.
One of the most powerful things I’ve read came from a book titled, The Miracle Morning, by Hal Elrod:
You are where you are today because of the accumulation of choices you made in your past. Most people are not happy with their current situation, yet they continue to do the same thing day after day. If you truly want to change or improve some area of your life, there will never be a better time to start than right now.
Today matters in the big picture of your life. Every decision, thought, action you do today effects more than just today. I’m sure you’ve heard of the Butterfly Effect? To break it down simply, it means that any occurrence or decision, no matter how small, can change the course of your life forever.
The fact that one single, tiny decision can change the course of your life is both terrifying and exhilarating. What if you made a decision right now to change your life for the better? What if one single thought popped in your mind and you had the choice to either accept or reject it? And the thought was “you have what it takes to be successful.” The decision to believe that small, quiet, thought would change the course of your life for the better.
If you believed you could meet your goals wouldn’t you strive for them? Make them bigger? Wouldn’t you find other ways of improving and getting closer to your goals? With every day that the thought enters and you chose to believe it, that belief grows bigger and stronger. Your determination grows stronger and your everyday decisions begin to reflect a newfound confidence. Before you know it, all of these small decisions and actions begin to accumulate and one day you will look up and realize you did it. You are successful.
We have to change the way we think about the choices we make on a daily basis. When you see that these small decisions actually have big impact, then you begin to make better decisions.
"Keep piling your grains of sand soon you’ll have a castle."
Maybe we’re not quite ready yet. There are lots of things left unfinished, but that’s the beauty in starting a new journey. You never really know how prepared or unprepared you are until you take the first step. That’s where the fun (and hardship and excitement and anxiety) begins! All of these things toughen us up – give us greater resolve – build perseverance!
So, thank you for your support during these awkward first steps. Please know, we are here for you too with every 30 Day Journey you start with us.
We see each day as a gift and we don’t want to waste a single gift by being too fixated on the next gift or dwelling on how bad we screwed up the last gift. Enjoy today, use its time wisely and begin your first step (along with us) to success.
